Seconds cruise to Irish Junior Cup next round
The men’s seconds returned to winning ways against Avoca seconds in the first round of the Irish Junior Cup at Comber Leisure Centre on Saturday.
The mood was good with the Comber men ready to kick start their season with a run in the cup. With the surprise return of Jonny Moore the seconds were looking to get some goals. The warm up and team talk focused around attacking as much as possible and going for an all out attacking performance and they did not disappoint.
North Down quickly went 2-0 up and soon after it was three. The clear and concise instructions from last of week of needing to score more had clearly worked as the Comber men fancied themselves at every chance and more often than not hit the backboard.
Going in at halftime it was 6-0 and with not much changing in the second half they maintained control and added four more to run in eventual winners 10-0. A footnote to the game was that an amazing total of 29 goals were scored on the pitch on Saturday with the ladies firsts winning 8-1 and the men’s firsts losing 8-2!!
Goal scorers for the seconds were: Stephen Magee with 3 and 1 each for Scott Moore, Gareth McKeown, Scott Irwin, Andy McKee, Rich Willis, Mark Shannon and Jonny Moore.
