Ladies seconds fail to Larne

Last Saturday a strong North Down seconds team faced Larne seconds at Comber Leisure Centre hoping to build on the previous week’s victory over Carrick.

The match got underway with North Down initially putting pressure on the Larne defence with Brittany Logan looking strong on the right hand side.  Good work from Charlotte McKee and Olivia Brown attacking the Larne defence led to North Down winning their first penalty corner and Julie Fisher was unlucky to score with a strong strike from the top of the circle.  Larne came back well with several unlucky shots at goal and this time it was the North Down defence who had to fight hard with a couple of brilliant saves by keeper Linda Marshall.

After half time Larne were more focused and despite good defensive work by Rebecca Brown and Karen Moore, Larne broke through with their speedy centre forward to score their first goal.  The North Down girls worked hard and although play was evenly matched in the second half it was Larne who eventually converted one of their chances into a second and decisive goal.

With ten minutes remaining, continuous pressure from Jenna Hoey and Judith Orr led to the North Down girls winning another penalty corner.  However they were unable to convert the chance to put any pressure on the visitors in the closing minutes and the match ended tamely in a decisive 2-0 victory for the visitors from Larne.
