Ladies thirds bow out of Intermediate Cup
After a week off last weekend North Down thirds were ready to take on Annadale 1st XI in the next round of the Intermediate Cup. Having beaten PSNI in the previous round in what turned out to be a very tough game the girls knew that this game wasn’t going to be any easier.
From the first whistle Annadale made a point that they were looking to win, their passing and positioning was impressive and within the first 10 minutes of the game they were two goals ahead. North Down’s defense were unable to come to terms with the formation of Annadale’s midfields and forwards and this benefited Annadale greatly. The majority of the first half was spent in North Down’s defending circle with Annadale having plenty of chances to score more goals but Fiona Emerson made some excellent saves. However, North Down went into half time 3-0 down after sweeper Rebecca Nield gave away a penalty stroke after stopping the ball on the line with her foot.
North Down had a very constructive team talk and were determined to go out in the second half to get on the scoresheet and this is just what they did. The girls had a great performance in the second half applying pressure to the Annadale defense. Laura Lyttle got North Down’s first goal by sweeping the ball into the net after it was crossed into the circle from the right wing. Annadale were very quick to strike back to make the victory secure by adding two further goals before Ashleigh Hamilton got North Down’s second goal. The girls produced a great performance in the second half and gave Annadale a run for their money but finally ran out 5-2 losers.
PMB Player of the Match: Ashleigh Hamilton.
