North Down Open Season in Style with 8–0 Win! 

North Down Men’s 1st XI got their season off to a flying start today with an emphatic 8–0 victory over Ballynahinch Men’s 1st XI.

From the opening whistle, North Down looked sharp, organised and determined to set the tone for the new season. They dominated possession and territory throughout the match, putting Ballynahinch under sustained pressure and creating chance after chance.

Captain Josh Gilmore led from the front with an outstanding hat-trick, while Burns added two goals and Jonny Linter also grabbed a brace. Public Jnr also got in on act opening his account for the season.

Despite the impressive attacking display, it was the defensive performance that will have pleased Coach McKeown just as much. North Down were rarely troubled and restricted Ballynahinch to just one clear opportunity all afternoon.

That chance came when a Ballynahinch forward found himself one-on-one with goalkeeper Darren Rodgers, but Rodgers stood tall and produced an excellent save to preserve the clean sheet.

At the other end, North Down could easily have added to their eight goals, with numerous chances created throughout the game. The scoreline could have been even more emphatic on another day.

Coach McKeown will be delighted with what was a professional and disciplined performance from his side on their first outing of the season. An eight-goal haul, a clean sheet and a dominant team display is exactly the sort of start any coach would have been looking for.

There will undoubtedly be more testing matches ahead, and tougher challenges will come as the season progresses, but North Down can take plenty of confidence from today’s performance.
