Hilary’s goal not enough for thirds
North Down thirds played Dungannon seconds at Comber Leisure Centre in a Friday evening league game.
Dungannon started strongly and North Down took their time to settle into the game resisting a wave of attacks from the visitors from Tyrone. The thirds eventually found their feet and kept the visitors at bay with the first half finishing scoreless.
With an encouraging half time talk from captain Keri Portinga, North Down started the second half strongly but Dungannon broke down the home defence and found the back of the net. North Down had their chances with the midfield pushing the ball up for the forward line in search of the equaliser but the chances were squandered. Dungannon eventually won a short corner and went further ahead but North Down fought back quickly and a break from Lynsey Stevenson through Dungannon’s strong midfield found Hilary West who broke the deadlock for the home side. Dungannon finished on top when they once again made it past the home defence and rattled in number three.
