Mens 1st XI Overun Ballynahinch
Results in recent weeks have ebbed and flowed and before Saturdays game with Ballynahinch, North Down knew they must take maximum points from their final three games if they were to have any chance of gaining a playoff into the Premier League.
As it happened North Down won easily and South Antrim who were in second place were defeated by Portadown.North Downs final 2 games against Portadown now have mammoth significance as whoever comes out of these games on top will be best placed for a play off.
The result of Saturdays game against Hinch was never in doubt once Donnan put them in the lead after 3 minutes .Hinch had no answer to the home sides fast flowing hockey and it was no surprise that they added seven more goals before halftime through Bailie 2,Watt 2 Sheppard 2 and Poots.
The second half continued in the same vein with Hinch offering little in the form of attacking play but North Down were guilty of holding onto the ball too long and as a result were unable to create multiple goal scoring opportunities. However Watt ,Sheppard and Poots completed their hattricks leaving the final score 12-0.
Coach Whyte will be looking for a full turn out at training this week as the prepatations build up for the home game against Portadown
