Some Midweek Joy for North Down
North Down shared eight goals with Kilkeel in a rescheduled Premier League game at the Leisure Centre on Wednesday evening
Kilkeel were first to threaten but Jordan Linter was on hand to clear his lines. North won a corner when Wilson crossed into the circle and Gilmore was stick tackled. A switch from the top of the circle saw McKeown hit the outside of the post. Tweedie then crossed and the ball hit a defenders foot. Kilkeel failed to clear and the ball broke to Bailie who had a simple task to smash into an empty net.
Kilkeel opened the second period strongly and a cross was deflected high into the body of an attacker. Kilkeel equalised at the second attempt. Boyd played the ball to Gilmore on the wing and his cross evaded everyone. McKane made a strong run and crossed to McKeown but his effort was saved.
At the start of the second half Ross Linter made a fine interception and passed to Wilson whose first time effort flashed over the bar. Harry Templeton was causing problems with his strong running and won a corner for a stick tackle. McKeowns effort from the corner went wide.McKane was fouled as he attacked the circle and from the resulting corner Phil Templeton scored with the help of a deflection. Kilkeel were quick to react and equalised with a fine team goal as the North Down defenders backed off. McKeown played a good ball into the circle but Gilmore was unable to make contact.in the final quarter Kilkeel were the first to threaten. They won a corner but this was deflected over the bar. Smith was penalised for an alleged push inside the 25 and from the corner a well worked move saw them score at the far post and take the lead for the first time. North pushed hard for the equaliser and were awarded a corner for a foul in the circle. Phil Templeton scored with a superb strike which gave the keeper no chance. With about 4 minutes remaining Kilkeel again took the lead. They were awarded a free and attacked the baseline. The ball was squared across goal and a forward nipped in to score. North remained positive and Tweedie brought them level 2 minutes later when he finished off a strong run into the circle with a shot into the corner. North Down had a chance to win when McKane created a chance for McKeown but his effort was saved.
