Ladies fifths hold on for three more points at Bangor
North Down ladies fifths made the short trip on Friday evening to the Aurora Centre to play Bangor seconds. The home team started the game strongly but the fifths were quick to settle down and get stuck in. There was nothing to separate the two teams in the first quarter and it ended scoreless.
North Down upped their game in the second period and won a series of penalty corners but couldn’t find the net. Bangor quickly fought back but with good defending from North Down a counter attack found Leona Clifford who got the first goal of the game. Just before half time North Down got another penalty corner and sweeper Kathryn Rogers eventually found the back of the net.
The second half saw Bangor making a few changes to their lineup and putting more pressure on the North Down defence. Centre mid Staci Maxwell kept the ball moving to the wings to unsettle the Bangor defence. During the last quarter Bangor continued to fight hard but the North Down defence worked well to keep them at bay linking well with the midfield and they eventually held out to secure three more valuable points.
