Ladies fourths recover from two down to win
North Down ladies fourths travelled to play CIYMS thirds last Friday in a Junior League 4 game.
CI started well and produced some lovely flowing short passing hockey which resulted in an opening goal after only 4 minutes. The North Down defence were continually tested and conceded a second when they made the mistake of not playing on until the whistle was blown, CI did and went 2-0 ahead as a result. North Down refused to be deflated and the mid field combined to get a through ball to Hilary West. Her pass to Naomi Mitchell then found Annie Haughey who pushed it into the net for her third of the season. The CI goalkeeper was tested several more times but stood firm leaving the visitors still behind 2-1 at half time.
Skipper Maxine Taylor made a few changes for the second half switching Lynsey Stevenson from centre midfield and the move paid off as North Down were able to attack relentlessly down the right and get numerous crosses across the goal only to be denied by the CI goalkeeper. Eventually North Down won a penalty flick and West converted to bring the scores level. The game was played at a fast pace from end to end but North Down were the more determined to win and excellent teamwork resulted in West finding the net again for the winner and her eighth of the season already.
