Ladies fifths run continues
North Down Ladies 5ths met Ballynahinch 2nds on Saturday at Regent House. Many of the normal players were Missing In Action or Absent Without Leave! However, somehow or other we managed to field a team, albeit many of them were a little bit tired out, but thank you to all of those who played.
The match initially was a bit like a Comedy of Errors, with the defence in particular deciding to see how many of us could miss the ball, thankfully Natasha in goals kept the score sheet at nil all. North Down started to settle and strong midfield play resulted in lovely passes to Judith, who put North Down one nil up with a super shot. Ballynahinch counter-attacked and Anna Rodgers decided to get her name on the score sheet (own goals don’t count towards top goalscorer Anna!)
With the score 1 1 at half – time, North Down tried to sort out their defensive marking, because, although Ballynahinch were only playing with two players up front, it often felt like four! Kathy had kindly come along to manage the team and encouraged the players to keep the width and try and win some corners. Obviously the team must have listened because eventually they won a corner and Anna S converted it.
The rest of the match was played end to end and the match could have gone either way, but thankfully North Down held on to get the 3 points.
PMB Player of the Match: Anna Smith
There are two matches this week for the 5ths, one on Wednesday night and one on Friday night.
