Just a cruise for ladies seconds
North Down ladies seconds welcomed Grosvenor seconds to Comber Leisure Centre on Saturday on the back of the previous week’s narrow victory over Larne. After an initial panic, North Down managed to start the game with 11 players with players stuck in traffic jams and security alerts
Having won the toss, North Down took the pass back and control of the first half. A deflection off Amy Jones’ stick saw the home team take an early lead. The run into half time saw three more goals, two from Julie Fisher and a magnificent penalty corner strike from Kathy Taylor to make it 4-0 at the break.
The second half saw some changes in personnel with Fiona Emerson taking up position in goals from stand in Chrissie McKee and the forwards and midfielders continued to sub on and off. The team continued to be in firm control of the game with Grosvenor posing no real threat and having only one shot at goal. North Down continued to apply pressure and were finally rewarded when Ali Millar rocketed two penalty corner strikes into the back of the net. Just on the final whistle young Emily Adams carried the ball from the 25, successfully beat her defender at the top of the circle and blasted the ball home to cement a very decisive 7-0 victory for the home team.
