Ladies thirds lose to strong Pegasus eleven
After some weeks of bad weather North Down thirds were more than ready to take on Pegasus thirds in the third round of the Junior Cup at Comber last Saturday. Having beaten them twice earlier in the season North Down were confident they could do it again.
North Down started the game strongly but after 10 minutes Pegasus found their feet and dominated the game for the majority of the first half. The visiting team were quick on the pass and went close with several attempts on goal of the game but Linda Marshall in nets kept the defence in line and made some spectacular saves. On 22 minutes Pegasus got the first goal of the match from a reverse shot at the top of the circle which deflected off defender Kathryn Rogers’ stick and into the top corner of the net. North Down picked up their game and played excellent one two passes up the pitch and had a few attempts to even the score line. Just before half time left wing Brittany Hogan took the ball from the half way line, played a one two with Laura Lyttle at the top of the circle passing it back to Britney and found the corner of the goal to make it all square at half time.
North Down knew Pegasus and their loaded team would come back fighting in the second half and the majority of the second half was spent in the home team’s defending circle. North Down did have limited chances up front but the Pegasus defence read the play of the ball well and cleared the attack with ease. After several penalty corners against the home team Pegasus got their second goal of the game from a straight shot from the top of the circle which gave Linda Marshall no chance. North Down fought until the very end trying their best to even the score to take the game into extra time but time eventually ran out.
