Ladies thirds run continues, two more from Ali!
This week the ladies thirds hosted Greenisland seconds at Comber Leisure Centre and after beating Priorians seconds away last week were determined to get another win under their belt.
With a strong squad North Down were ready to go from the first whistle and the play looked promising. As the first half went on North Down spent most of the time attacking the Greenisland defence and had many chances to score. The Greenisland forward line failed to enter North Down’s defending circle in the first half. After a number of penalty corners North Down got the first goal of the match from open play with a hit from the side of the circle from right link Ali Millar. However, the North Down heads dropped towards the end of the first half and their level of passing deteriorated but they still went into half time one nil up.
With a very promising half time talk from Jo Irwin the ladies knew they could bring their game back and put more shots past the keeper and that’s exactly what they did! Straight from the first whistle North Down connected the one two passes between the forward and the links and won plenty of penalty corners throughout the second half where Ali Millar got her second goal of the game. Greenisland’s attacking line picked up their pace and were trying their best to put shots past goalkeeper Linda Marshall but defenders Ann McBride and Rachel Gibson read the run of the ball well and broke down the play. North Down had several more chances to score but they finished the game 3-0 after the ball was crossed into the circle and deflected off Judith Orr’s stick.
