Sixths get a point at Portadown
Portadown are a club on the up this season and this is never more evident than in the performance in the junior league of their fourth eleven. They are well placed at the top of Junior Six with a team comprised almost wholly of last season’s under 15 squad. The North Down 6th eleven which travelled to Edenvilla last Saturday featured a number of changes from the usual squad and the team did well to come away from Portadown with a share of the points in a 2-2 draw.
Peter Bond scored the only goal in a very even first half after 28 minutes and only the efforts of stand in keeper McBride kept the visitors in front.
Portadown continued with their fast flowing game in the second half and eventually tied the game on 54 minutes following defensive lapses from the visitors. Five minutes later they went in front from a penalty corner but on 63 minutes Davy Frazer got the slightest of touches in front of goal to deflect the equalizer past the home keeper. The standard of hockey throughout the game belied the fact that this was being played in the bottom junior league and both teams should be commended for their efforts.
