Narrow defeat for mens fourths
North Down fourths were defeated in a close run game at Shaws Bridge by table topper Instonians fourths. North Down started well, looking well organised at the back and posing a threat on fast counter attacks throughout. However a long ball caught out the defence and, with both defender and goalkeeper slipping, the Inst forward took advantage to carry the ball in and score what was to be the only goal of the game.
North Down rallied in the second half with a free flowing move ending in Andrew Proctor’s shot deflecting off the goalkeeper’s arm and bouncing just the wrong side of the post when the ball seemed destined for the goal. Instonians could have also scored a second from a penalty corner but as the shortened game came towards the end North Down pressed high. Perhaps they should have made more of their chances in the last 5 minutes with some physical challenges from both teams towards the end. The match was well umpired by Mark Shannon throughout and the team would like to thank Mark for his efforts.
