Ladies 3s Battle Hard Despite 5–0 Defeat to Dungannon 2s
North Down 3rds started the first quarter strongly and played composed and confident hockey. Goalkeeper Taylor Robinson made some excellent saves as Dungannon applied pressure, while Kathryn Rodgers, Ruby Donaldson, Cara McConnell and Karen Moore worked hard to defend the circle.
Despite North Down’s strong start, Dungannon opened the scoring against the run of play. North Down found it difficult to get the ball through to forwards Heather Kinnier, Emma Bradshaw and Zoe Pritchard as Dungannon intercepted well. On the quarter-time whistle, Dungannon won a penalty corner and converted to make it 2–0.
Dungannon looked the stronger side in the second quarter and made good use of their possession. Emma Crawford, Annalise Burnside and Katie Johnston worked tirelessly in midfield, constantly trying to break down Dungannon’s attacks and create opportunities for North Down. Unfortunately, Dungannon added a third goal before half time.
North Down came out after the break determined to keep fighting. Hannah McBratney and Keri Portinga produced some great balls from the back line, helping North Down move forward and create chances. Despite their efforts, they just couldn’t find the back of the net.
The final quarter saw North Down create some lovely link-up play with continued determination right until the final whistle.
A huge well done to the whole team for their fantastic work rate throughout.
