Ladies 3s Battle to 1-1 Draw Against Armagh 3s
North Down travelled to Armagh on Saturday, with both teams looking to secure their first win of the season.
Following last week’s cup defeat, North Down were determined to put in a stronger performance and started positively. Armagh came out fighting, winning a penalty corner in the first quarter, but goalkeeper Nikki Ferris kept the defence on their toes and ensured North Down remained in the game.
As the match progressed, North Down found their feet and began to apply pressure of their own. The first half was evenly contested, with North Down winning a few penalty corners, although they were unable to convert these into goals.
North Down came out stronger in the second half, showing plenty of determination, but Armagh remained quick on the counterattack. However, North Down eventually found the breakthrough with a well-worked move. Zoë Pritchard drove the ball towards the back line before cutting it back towards the penalty spot, where Katie Johnston was on hand to find the backboard and put North Down ahead!
With only a few minutes remaining, North Down worked hard to keep Armagh’s attack at bay, but a late penalty corner gave Armagh one final opportunity to threaten.
A much-improved performance from North Down, with plenty of positives to take into the next fixture!
A massive thank you to Keri Portinga for umpiring, and to Gary Alexander and Tim Burns for coaching.
