The Under 15 girls followed the boys Indoor Tournament at Antrim Forum on Sunday. For many of the girls it was their first experience of Indoor Hockey – a much different game to outdoor but they soon got into the swing of things !
First match was against Omagh which they won 1-0 Emma Cochrane scoring and she almost got a second but her shot hit the post. Next up was a strong Lisnagarvey side. Angelique Toombs was busy and strong at the back, playing some lovely passes out to midfield. Kenzi Fisher and Kate McConnell soaked up lots of pressure in midfield. Garvey scored twice from two lovely drag flicks from corners but Emma Cochrane pulled one back for North Down in the dying seconds. The third match was against Mossley and the girls seemed to be on the back foot in this game and struggled to find their shape taking a defeat 4-0 defeat.
Bouncing back their next match was against CIYMS. Eilidh Blair and Kenzi Fisher played solidly and fed the ball forward. Sophie Hoey was strong on the attack and from one break won a penalty corner. Kenzi Fisher scored with a lovely deflection. Although North Down were dominant in this match, they allowed C.I to sneak in an equaliser. The last match of the day was against Armagh. The girls all played excellently in this match with some great passing hockey. Lots of pressure resulted in us winning a couple of penalty corners in quick succession. Two identical corner set ups resulted in two identical goals! Kenzi injected ball out to Sophie Hoey who saw the gap in the defence on the goal line and slotted the ball into the net. Final mention to our goalie Amy Powell who was in action in every match, pulling off some super saves and goal mouth clearances – great work Amy !
All in all a good day at the office for the girls and a very enjoyable day. Big thanks to Ulster Hockey for organising a great day and to all the umpires for giving up their time and also to coaches Julie Fisher and Keri Portinga!
