Ladies fourths hold out for fine away win at Mossley

Last Friday evening North Down ladies fourths travelled to The Glade to play Mossley thirds in a Junior League Four game.  Having been beaten home and away last season the girls were aware that no picnic lay ahead.

Mossley quickly dominated the game starving the visitors of any opportunity in reaching the scoring zone. North Down’s defence battled endlessly keeping Mossley out with super saves from Helena Press in goals and sheer determination from the back line of Katie Gibson, Kathryn Rogers and Erin Scurfield. Fiona Ellis fought tirelessly with skilful tackling breaking up any ideas the hosts had in scoring.  The half ended as it began, scoreless.

Midway through the second half North Down broke free with Tara Dixon and Sara Moreland working the play down the right hand side towards the 25 yard line. Moreland perfectly crossed the ball into the circle for Abby McCague to connect driving a strong shot into the back of the net. After that it was all backs to the wall stuff with super team work from everyone and great covering from Julie Fisher in midfield.  Somehow, the Comber girls held out for a great away win and three valuable points.

Player of the Match:  Fiona Ellis
