Thirds lose local derby

The thirds hosted neighbouring Ards thirds on Friday evening. With both teams fielding a mix of youth and experience it was ards who looked the more focused team in the beginning.North Down began getting into the game with the defence providing some sound passes to the midfield.Great work between Julie Fisher and Cathy Taylor allowed north down to breach the ards circle on a number of occasions.Unfortunately nothing came of these passages of play Ards a little more clinical up front won a couple of corners but these were well saved by Fiona Emerson.
The North Down girls began working better together in the second period. However it seemed the Comber girls thought they were playing soccer rarther than hockey.Ards eventually broke the deadlock scoring from a well worked corner.North Down continued to work well but unfortunately without fruition. In the dying seconds of the game a last chance for North Down came from a hitout from Rodgers via Fisher through to West who was unlucky not to make connection with the ball and the chance was gone
