The mens thirds lost 5-1 to Garvey fourths on Friday night at Londonderry Park. North Down controlled the first quarter but went one down against the run of play. Missing chances frustrated the home side and when Jonny Moore left the field injured, the pace upfront was diminished. Determined to get back into the game,…
Solid result which, if we’re honest, probably doesn’t accurately reflect the game which could easily have gone either way. We were out of the blocks quickly, with a goal 25 seconds into the game. Portrush brought themselves back into the game with an equaliser 8 minutes later and only a goal separated the teams at…
It was a bruising 6-0 defeat for the men’s 5s today against a very strong Banbridge team. There are still some positives to take away however! Jamie McAuley had plenty of action in nets…. He had just stepped off the pitch after playing a full game for the fourths and was subjected to 70 minutes…
North Down travelled to the Aurora Centre in Bangor in a confident mood for the first Premier League game of the season but returned home disappointed following a 5-1 defeat. The first quarter saw both sides probe for openings. North Down had two great chances to go in front. The first following a goal mouth…
Following a five goal defeat at home last week to Ballymoney North Down entertained Banbridge at Comber Leisure Centre last Saturday in the Vitality Premier League. North Down started well with good attacks as well as soaking up pressure from the opposition. The team remained strong as the game settled and the score remained 0-0 at…
North Down ladies fifths took on Parkview seconds at Comber Leisure Centre in the league on Saturday and although it was great to have a squad of 16 with half the players over 40 and the other half under 20, many were still carrying injuries, so the outcome was not taken for granted./p> However, it…
On Saturday afternoon North Down Ladies fourths hosted Castle thirds at home hoping to secure their first win of the season. They started the match with nine players pushing forward from the starting whistle. Within the first five minutes of play, Karen Barker and Ruby Bond made a speedy run onto the pitch and settled…
The Ladies 5ths travelled to play Holywood seconds, having had a squad of 16 last week they ended up with 11 bodies on the pitch – the minds were all willing, but eventually most of the bodies just weren’t able! The Holywood forwards were using supersonic speed and very fancy stick skills to get around…
A ‘Wise’ Gin Infused Geriatric hockey playing (and occasional match reporting) man once told me – ‘A squad of 15 is one too many’. The 2s game away to Garvey2s yesterday proved that is possibly not always the case… The match started with our full quota of 14 fit(ish) players available and ready to take…
North Down travelled to Shaws Bridge on Tuesday evening to play Instonians in their final Kirk Cup game. Without a number of regulars they knew they would be up against it as Inst have now progressed to the IHL. The first quarter played at an exceptional pace was evenly contested with both sides probing for…
