Ladies go on Pre-season Tour!

A 16 strong touring squad travelled to Dublin at the beginning of September with the aim of solidifying team bonds and developing individual skill and gameplay against new opposition in preparation for the incoming season.

The opening fixture was against Leinster Division 1 side Portrane who showcased excellent team structure and strategy from the off. They played a fast-paced and dynamic style of hockey and their ability to transition quickly between offense and defence had the North Down side on their toes.

One of the major challenges faced was their effective use of overlapping runs to create space and confusion, making it difficult for the Comber based side to take control of the game.

Although the final score was a 4-0 loss the team demonstrated strength and resilience but Portrane’s exemplary organization and skill level has undoubtedly set a standard for future matches.

The second fixture was against old friends of North Down, Railway Union, who fielded a 2/3s Select.

Similar to the Portrane game the play was fast and dynamic. From the start, both teams displayed a high level of skill and determination. The game was closely contested, with numerous scoring opportunities on both ends. The defensive lines held strong, intercepting passes and making critical tackles.

This close encounter highlighted our potential, as we rallie well, displaying some dynamic game play but ultimately fell short by just one goal.

The tour has set a positive tone for the season ahead as we look forward to applying what we’ve learned and continuing to develop as a cohesive unit.

The huge amount of fun had by everyone has also helped strengthen bonds within the squad and with newly appointed lead coach Robbie McMinn.
