Queens Edge Out North Down in a Thrilling 3-2 Mid-Week Battle

In a thrilling mid-week fixture, North Down faced off against Queens, ultimately falling short with a final score of 3-2. The match was a rollercoaster of emotions, with both teams showcasing their skills and determination throughout.

North Down started strong, demonstrating excellent teamwork and offensive pressure. Emily Johnston opened the scoring with a fantastic goal from open play, putting North Down ahead. The team continued to push forward, creating several more opportunities as they sought to extend their lead.

Queens responded with resilience, and the game began to swing back in their favor. North Down’s defensive unit put in a solid effort with Rebecca Webster continuously breaking down Queens attack, however a long corner found a free Queens player in the circle who took full advantage of the opportunity to make it 1-1.

The end to end play continued into the next quarter with North Down pushing forward in search of the lead. A textbook perfect penalty corner executed by Jasmine Fraser and Faye McCann allowed North Down to add another goal to their tally, bringing the score to 2-1.

Unfortunately Queens were quick to retaliate, nicking a deflection from a quickly taken free hit to make it 2-2.

The match took a dramatic turn in the final quarter. The pressure was palpable as both teams fought for control, but in a heartbreaking twist, Queens scored again just before the final whistle, sealing North Down’s fate with a 3-2 defeat.

Despite the loss, North Down displayed grit and determination, with standout performances from many. The team will be looking to regroup and bounce back in the New Year.
