Thirds lose at Instonians
The thirds made the short journey to Shaws Bridge on Saturday to take on Inst in the League.After last weeks positive performance but disappointing result North Down were keen to get their season up and running.
The game began at a fast pace and North Down edged the performance in the first half creating most of the chances.A flurry of activity around the Inst circle saw North Down almost take the lead with Clarke and Brown testing the keeper.Irwin at centre back controlled the play and with the support of Revill at right back and Long holding his position on the left side of defence.North Down were punished for their inability to finish when Inst took the lead from a well worked short corner just before half time.
After half time North down were inspired but it was Inst who added to their lead again from a short corner.Things got worse as the half progressed and North Down went further behind with 10 minutes remaining.Out of nowhere Ben Willis pulled one back for the Comber men.Suddenly their was belief in the team again.Pyper urged his team forward setting up Jonny Proctor to tap in the second.North down were on the front foot and with 5 minutes remaining Nicholson who was carrying an injury slipped and lost possession.Inst ran in to increase their lead.The game still was not finished and Clarke won a stray ball and rounded the keeper to make it 4-3 with only seconds remaining.It was all a little too late but the nature of the comeback showed great character in the team
