Seconds do the double on Dromore
On Saturday North Down seconds finally returned to action in Comber after a long four weeks off and were keen to dust off the cobwebs to keep up their unbeaten league run. The opposition was provided by Dromore thirds who had been trounced 6-0 at the start of the season.
Both teams showed the lack of pitch time with North Down creating better chances however it was Dromore winning all the 50/50 balls as the Comber girls were caught ball watching. North Down got their passing game back with Claire MacQuarrie leading the way producing a great through ball to find Julie Fisher at the top of the circle. Veteran Fisher’s pass found Naomi Mitchell at the back post for a simple finish to take the home side into a 1-0 lead which they held until the half time break.
Dromore came back stronger and harder in the second half and the hard work paid off as the left midfield slipped inside her marker to find herself with a one on one with the keeper and made no mistake to level matters up. This fired up the North Down side and with slick passing round the back, good switches of play and playing the simple passes the Comber girls managed once again to take the lead through Natalie Strain. A rebound fell kindly and she made no mistake from close in. Dromore were not for giving up and were quick on their counter attack however in defence Rebecca Walker was on hand to mop up for the home side with the ever reliable Linda Marshall backing her up in nets. In the closing minutes North Down made sure of the three points when great work from Ali Millar at the top of the circle from a penalty corner slotted home a third goal.
