Good win for ladies seconds at Harlequins
On Saturday the ladies 2nds travelled the short trip away to Deramore Park to play Belfast Harlequins 4ths wanting to come away with all 3 points.
North Down started the stronger of the two teams with excellent quick passing proving too fast for Harlequins at times. Having the luxury of two subs these were used well ensuring fresh legs were always on the pitch which paid off when a great ball from centre back Judith Orr found centre mid Laura Campbell who was able to release the ball to Charlotte McKee who worked the ball up the pitch to give a perfectly timed ball to Amy Jones who has able to fight the ball through the keeper to put the visitors ahead. The Comber girls were determined to keep their heads down and keep ahead when they gained a short corner, player of the match Jenna Hoey was on hand to strike at the top only for the keeper to pull off a great save but Jenna was on hand for the rebound and after a great reverse hit doubled North Downs lead and took them into half time 2-0 ahead.
The second half was much of the same however Quins won many short corners but the defensive team of Judith Orr, Karen Jackson, Rebecca Brown, Ali Miller and keeper Linda Marshall kept them at bay, brilliant working back from the mids Sasha Bell and Britney Hogan helped to set up the counter attacks where wingers Ling Reid and Olivia Brown took full advantage of their speed and were very unlucky not to get on the score sheet. The final whistle came and Comber girls were delighted to get their first 3 points of Belfast Harlequins in a very long time. Hopefully the excellent team work from this week will carry over for their next league match hoping to have a good finish to 2013. Thanks to Roger Nield who stepped in to umpire at the very last minute.
