Nathan steals the show!
The sixth eleven had another smashing success last Saturday at Nendrum College when they defeated Saintfield seconds 7-4. Star on the day was young Nathan Grimshaw with a 19 minute first half hat trick. In fact it would have been in 9 minutes had Mark Vincent not poached his goal bound second effort and touched it over the line.
Grimshaw had been pencilled in to start in midfield but persuaded Tom Green to swop positions and what a change it was! The elderly Saintfield defence had no answer to the speed and vitality of the North Down midfield and attack and by the time Grimshaw had completed his hat trick on 28 minutes it was 4-1 and an uphill climb for the visitors.
Into the second half and stand in keeper Alex Porter was called into action to make two saves before Saintfield pulled a goal back to make it 4-2. The sixths lost their way for a time and for the only spell in the game looked vulnerable however Jack Bond’s excellent goal on 51 minutes was the start of a 7 minute period when they scored three superb team goals, the other two coming from Tom Green and the pacy David Renfrew. At 7-2 the contest was over but there was still time for the visitors to take some gloss off the performance as they hit two goals past the statuesque keeper in the closing 5 minutes.
With two successive fine victories under their belts the sixths
are at last getting it together and must now look forward to the second half of the season with great confidence.
