Just A Cruise For Ladies 4th XI
By Julie Fisher
After the break the previous Saturday due to a frosty pitch, North Down 4ths were looking forward to their home fixture against Ballymena thirds.
The first 10 minutes of the game started slowly for the home side as they were put under spells of pressure, but as with previous games and true to form North Down settled and began playing good attacking hockey. Midfield linked well and placed some lovely balls to the forwards. By half time the home side were two nil up. The first goal came from a shot taken outside the circle by Lynsey Stevenson which rebounded off a defender into the net and then Jo Irwin took a great strike from the edge of the circle sending the ball into the roof of the net.
The second half saw the visitors fight back but within minutes of the restart, Lynsey scored her second and yet again it was a deflection off the defender into the net. Ballymena didn’t give up and tried to attack, but this pressure was dealt with by the home side’s solid defence. Moments from time, Kayla Enos put the game beyond any comeback for Ballymena when she slotted the ball past the keeper after from some goal mouth action.
Final score 4 nil to North Down. A great positive team performance with some lovely passing hockey and total commitment from all 13 involved on the day!
