North Down Ladies 1st XI welcomed Mossley to Comber Leisure Centre on Saturday for the semi-final of the Senior Cup. Despite North Down’s focus this season being on the league, the girls were keen to secure a win and get to the final.
North Down had an excellent start to the game, playing some of their best hockey this season. Players were stringing together passes and there was particularly some excellent play down the left-hand side through Heather Brittain, Bethany Burrows and Rachel Murphy.
Into the second quarter, North Down continued to settle into the match, playing most of the game inside Mossley’s half of the pitch. Despite this, the girls were unable to capitalise.
Mossley slowly started working their way into the game in the third quarter and despite some wonderful defence efforts from Bethan Crawford, Alex Boyd and Rachel Mornin the Mossley striker Lucy Campbell managed to evade them all to push in what became the decisive goal.
During the final quarter North Down changed their tactics to push more players forward but Mossley had well and truly parked the bus, putting everything on the line to hold onto their 1-0 lead.
The game finished 1-0 to Mossley and North Down wish them all the best as they take on Priorians in the final. Meanwhile North Down look forward to securing the other half of the double when they play their final match of the season against Bangor on Friday 25 March.
North Down travelled last Saturday to play Campbellians in a league fixture hoping to continue their recent improved form and in a hard fought game they came out winners by the narrowest of margins. It was a clichéd game of two halves with North Down dominating play in the first period and Campbellians on top…
The mens’ first eleven ran out easy winners last Saturday afternoon at Comber Leisure Centre with a 10-0 win over Antrim. At one stage in the second half it looked as though the visitors would get a reprieve due to a cloudburst and floodlight failure but the weather cleared and Antrim finished under it. The…
On Saturday North Down 2nds welcomed Grosvenor 2nds to Comber Leisure Centre and with the last meeting of these two teams resulting in a slim one goal win to Grosvenor the Comber girls were seeking revenge. As the team featured a number of changes from the normal starting eleven, including the loss of their top scorer,…
North Down fifths travelled to Antrim Forum last Saturday to play a weak, ill disciplined Antrim thirds team in the league. With the home team putting their energies into disputes with the umpires, the opposition, themselves and even at times with the spectators the team which concentrated on hockey ran out easy 5-1 winners. For…
North Down thirds were once again back in action last Saturday in the league cup at home to Portadown seconds at Comber Leisure Centre. North Down took the previous week’s positives with them into this match hoping to pick up the first win of the season. However, Portadown clearly hadn’t read the script and started…
A 4-2 win. We rumble on undefeated. Rescued, against all odds and reason, by a Buddha hat trick. A first half of purest pantaloons that left the crowd embarrassed to be caught watching it, followed by a half time of Irwin weapons-grade hairdryer, resulting in a second half that left the crowd thinking they could…
