Five goal loss for ladies fifths

North Down ladies 5ths took on a very strong Holywood 2nds team on Saturday at Regent House with a squad of 14.

In the first quarter North Down were under constant attack but the defence played with such determination that the score was 0-0 with goalkeeper Alexia Surgenor making some great saves and all the defenders clearing her rebounds.

Unfortunately North Down gave away a short corner at the start of the second quarter and Holywood’s captain scored with an unstoppable first time shot and, despite Charlotte Cairns doing everything she possibly could to mark her out of the game Holywood managed to get into the North Down circle a couple of times and she scored each time – again, unstoppable goals.

North Down changed tactics in the third quarter by playing four midfield and two up front to try and deter Holywood breaking through and they did win a couple of corners but could not find the net and Holywood counter attacked to make it 4-0 with one quarter to go.

It was very impressive that North Down did not let their heads go down despite Holywood scoring again in the final quarter to end the scoring at 5-0.

Burch Autos Player of the Match was Charlotte Cairns
