Look out!! ……… It’s KIRSTY MCCRORY

There’s not much happening on the hockey scene, or anywhere else at the moment, so it’s time to start a new feature on our #oneclub website.  We’ve put a number of questions to some of our members and this is what we’ve come up with.  The post will stay up for 5/6 days before the next candidate takes centre stage.

Thanks to Kirsty and those other mystery folk who have responded already and there will be more in the pipeline.  YOU could be next!

When and where did you first play hockey?

I started playing when I was in first year at Lagan College and quickly after started playing here in North Down.

Have you played for any other hockey clubs?

Just North Down.  Since I was 11 so this is my 9th year being part of the club!

Do you have any personal ambitions in hockey?

Anyone who knows me knows that I have this really amazing talent of missing an open net, so I think one of my hockey ambitions is to maybe get better at not doing that!

What has been your best moment at North Down?

For me personally some of my favourite moments have been off the pitch and going to the club run events like the dinner dance, the Easter tournament, the quiz and the other parties throughout the year. To me that’s what makes North Down unique we have just as much fun off that pitch as we do on.

Who has been your favourite player to play with at North Down and why?

My favourite player to play with so far in North Down has to be Laura Murray she is just so reliable and sometimes I see her play and I’m confused to how she gets out of situations with the ball. She also has a mean straight strike on her that has definitely saved our butts a few times this season.

Who in your North Down team would you want, and who not, on your quiz team?

I would want Rebecca Nield.  She has good bit of general knowledge and she is also very good at getting other peoples answers!  I wouldn’t want Olivia Davidson, she’d be terrible at the questions HOWEVER would be very good at getting another gin so not all bad.

What is your favourite personal sporting moment and a favourite all time sporting one?

When I was in school, I got to captain Lagan College into winning the U18 NI High Schools cup.  It was one of the most intense matches I’ve ever played but one I’ll never forget.   My all time favourite sporting moment is Jessica Ennis winning the Gold at the 2012 Olympics!

What is the best holiday you have ever had?

One of my favourites was over the past summer I and some of the girls from the club went camping at the cliffs of Moher.  Honestly thought our tent was going to blow away with us in it.  It was still really good fun!

Where is your ideal holiday location?

Iceland, I really want to go to the glass igloo hotels and see the Northern lights

What is your favourite TV programme?

I’m a granny at heart and love Call the Midwife, every episode does not fail to make me cry.

What is your favourite movie?

I have two. Chicken Run because it is just an amazing movie that is always forgotten about and the other one is Wild Child because the soundtrack for it is just so good

What have you been doing to stay fit during the coronavirus break?

Shuttle sprints in my garden, honestly anything that can keep me from doing university work!
