Two for Amy as ladies thirds hold out for win

North Down ladies thirds travelled to Lisnagarvey fourths for a Friday evening return league fixture and having beaten them 2-0 earlier in the season were confident they could do it again.

The visiting team however were asleep for the first quarter as Garvey got onto the scoreboard first and applied lots of pressure for the first 15 minutes. North Down came back out in the second period and started to get back into the game. Great inter passing between Amy Jones and Amy McMullan in the circle led to McMullan getting the equaliser North Down needed. Shortly after this North Down went ahead at a penalty corner. Tilly Nield slipped the ball left to Amy McMullan who got her second goal of the game. North Down built on their lead going into half time with a third goal from Ashleigh Hamilton.

The start of the second half saw the Comber visitors drop back and after good attacking play from the home team they got their second goal of the game to make it 3-2.  North Down held out until the end of the third quarter and went into the final period needing a goal to make sure of the points. The defence held firm with good teamwork from Laura Campbell, Fiona Ellis and Olivia Davidson and eventually right midfielder Amy Jones got the fourth goal of the game taking the ball through the Garvey defence and in between the keeper’s legs.
