Hat trick for Tom Myles against Mossley seconds

North Down seconds hosted Mossley seconds in a Friday night game knowing that 3 points would help them reclaim fourth spot in Junior One.

North Down started the match well dominating possession and went 1-0 from a well worked short corner routine where Chris Speers sent in a low drag flick for a sliding Stephen Dalzell to deflect in at the back post!  Tom Myles added a second shortly after to leave the score 2-0 to North Down at the end of the first quarter.

The second quarter continued much like the first with Mossley happy to drop off and give North Down the lion’s share of the possession. This tactic was starting to frustrate the hosts as they struggled to get through a compact Mossley defence. That was until Tom Myles picked the pocket of a Mossley defender and smashed a reverse stick shot past the stranded Mossley keeper making it 3-0 at half time!

Into the second half it was vital that North Down scored the next goal to kill off the game and secure the points. Nine minutes in the fourth goal arrived with Tom Myles following up from a rasping Jordan Linter shot that was well saved by the Mossley keeper and scoring again on his reverse from a tight angle.  Mossley did manage to grab a goal back before the end of the quarter when they capitalised on some confusion within the North Down defence to tap in at the back post.

The final quarter was little more than a training match with Mossley offering very little in terms of attack. North Down created multiple chances and Rich Willis eventually got North Down’s final goal with a tap on at the back post after a well worked passing move to round off a convincing 5-1 win.
