Ladies fourths lose to a strong Mossley team
The ladies fourths entertained a strong Mossley thirds team at Regent house School last Saturday hoping to repeat their single goal victory earlier in the season.
Mossley came out strongly from the starting whistle catching North Down off guard and the home team battled hard against the wind and miserable weather in an attempt to keep Mossley out. After a dubious decision early on in the game Mossley were awarded a penalty corner. This was greeted with astonishment by the North Down defence who lost their focus allowing Mossley to score.
Anna Crooks, Katie Nelson and Kathryn Rogers stood strong in defence juggling high balls and flying sticks from the opposition but Mossley pressed on and soon scored their second goal to make it 2-0 at half time.
After a half time team talk by coach David Moreland, the North Down girls came back out determined to improve their team performance. Erin Scurfield and Karen Jackson stepped up a gear fighting for every ball and breaking down the Mossley midfield plays.
Kirsty McCrory and Sara Moreland were outstanding on the wings sprinting and dodging around the opposition crossing balls across the circle to Annie Haughey and Hilary West. However their tireless efforts went unrewarded as the forward line just couldn’t slip the ball in behind Mossley’s defence. At the other end Linda Marshall in the home goals did a fantastic job stopping the away team from adding to their score sheet and there was no further scoring. The fourths should be super proud of themselves fighting to the end against such a strong and feisty team.
