Winless run comes to an end against Mossley

North Down got back to winning ways on Saturday when they entertained Mossley at Comber Leisure Centre in the Premier League winning by 3-2.  North Down were without Coach Gareth McKeown, Jonny Linter, Steven Dalzell and Jordan Lyner but those who deputised gave 100% despite sometimes having to play out of position.

Mossley probably had slightly more of the possession but the home side defended like terriers and keeper Darren Rodgers made some outstanding saves.  North Down took the lead after 7 minutes when Josh Gilmore scored after a melee in front of goal.  Mossley fought back and equalised when Todd scored from a narrow angle with Rodgers expecting a cross.  The visitors then won 3 corners but these were well dealt with by the defence and Rodgers made a brilliant double save from Todd at another corner.  North Down took a 2-1 lead 10 minutes before halftime when James Clark made ground and passed to Fynn who slotted home from 6 yards.

The second half was evenly fought with both midfields taking control and neither goal threatened.  However Mossley pushed hard for the equaliser in the last 10 minutes and some timely clearances by Jordan Linter ensured that the home goal remained intact.  With 2 minutes remaining Mossley got the equaliser when Todd found space and slotted home from mid circle.  Not to be outdone the Comber men worked the ball into the Mossley circle winning a short corner. The ball was partially cleared but in the second phase of play the ball was stopped on the line by a defender’s foot and a penalty was awarded. Gilmore stepped up and calmly flicked the ball into the net for the winning goal to cap an excellent team performance and a deserved 3 points.
