Ladies fifths not strong enough for Bangor

On Saturday North Down ladies fifths entertained Bangor seconds at Regent House School in a Junior Seven league game.

The home defence of Rachel Quigley, Linda Marshall, Bev Brittain, Cara McConnell and Saioa Oscoz were under constant pressure for most of the first half, but managed to get accurate tackles in to thwart Bangor, with Marshall in goals making numerous saves. Joanne Irwin had unselfishly taken herself off in order to analyse the North Down’s performance and gave an excellent evaluation at half time the summary of which was that the defence were working their socks off, but when the ball was then cleared out of defence, all of the North Down players were guilty of not looking up before passing and were handing the match to Bangor.

The North Down players did take this on board and played better in the second half but despite heroic saves from well deserved Player of the Match Linda Marshall, including a penalty flick, Bangor emerged victorious 3 nil. The score does not reflect the potential of this team and they should definitely do better in the return match.

PMB Player of the Match: Linda Marshall
