Mens 1st xi Draw at Newry
Points shared at Newry
North Down travelled to play Newry on Saturday and after a hard fought game returned home with a share of the spoils.
Played in atrocious conditions and on a difficult slippery pitch North Down found themselves a goal down after 2 minutes. The defence was caught too far upfield and the centre forward ran through to slot past Rodgers..Newry were attacking with purpose down their right wing and there crashed balls into the circle were causing problems for the visitors defence. At the other end North Down had 2 great chances to equalise.First McKibbin found himself with space at the top of the circle but shot tamely wide. Then a cross from the right eluded Gilmore who had found space six yards out but failed to make contact,
The second half was only minutes old when North Down equalised. The ball was slipped to the hard running Moore in the circle and he slipped the ball past the outstretched keeper.Play switched from end to end but clear cut chances were few.Tempers flared as both sides pushed for the win. With seven minutes remaining North Down got the important break through with Templeton slotting home their fifth short corner..Newry piled men forward as they tried to salvage a point. With 2 minutes remainingTheir hard work paid of when they equalised from a corner.Rodgers made a fine save from the initial shot but at the third attempt Newry scrambled the ball into the net.The last chance fell to Newry when they were awarded another corner right on full time but the chance was squandered.
