Ladies seconds home win over Garvey
The ladies seconds played Lisnagarvey thirds on an extremely warm day last Saturday afternoon at Comber Leisure Centre looking to improve on an away 1-1 draw earlier in the season.
With two remaining league fixtures left and the Intermediate Plate final to look forward to on 12 May there was still plenty of hockey to be played and it was important to maintain momentum after a very encouraging performance against unbeaten league leaders Queens last week which resulted in a narrow 1-0 defeat.
It was therefore somewhat disappointing that on a slow pitch on a hot day in the first half North Down struggled to maintain possession and play with the intensity which has been a trademark of their season so far. Although chances were created it was a breakaway goal against the run of play that left Lisnagarvey 1-0 up at the break.
The second half saw more urgency from North Down and some encouraging passages of play pinned Lisnagarvey in their own half as chances came and went. The effort and work rate was evident and utilising the strong bench North Down’s perseverance showed with the scoring of two goals through Caitlin Taylor and Amy Alexander to secure a 2-1 victory and another 3 points.
Many thanks to Beverley Brittain for umpiring and to the home support.
