Fourths reach JL5 League Cup Final

The mens fourths, in the only game of a weather affected day, reached the Junior Five League Cup Final with a narrow but deserved victory over Antrim thirds at Regent House.

With lots of idle players clamouring for a last minute place on the team Andrew Haire stuck to his normal squad and the move was justified as they dominated the game for all but the first 15 minutes.  Having defended strongly against the visitors who were quick out of the blocks North Down gradually got into the game but poor control in the final third and in the circle let Antrim off the hook.  On 31 minutes the breakthrough came when Scott Irwin was on hand from close in to make it 1-0 at half time.

The second half saw Antrim rally strongly and it took several great saves from Peter Craig to maintain the slim margin.  On 62 minutes the game was finally put to bed when Antrim were caught by a quick breakaway leading to a three on two.  The North Down front three stayed calm and coolly passed the ball round the isolated defenders for James Millar-Hogg to tap in for his eighth of the season.
