Ladies seconds fade against Annadale in cup
North Down seconds welcomed the Annadale first eleven to Regent House School last Friday night for the first round of the Intermediate Cup.
Annadale started the stronger of the two teams and good movement from the forwards pulled the North Down defence out of shape and they were soon two goals in front. The Comber girls took this as a quick wakeup call and began getting pressure onto the Annadale defence. Eventually they were awarded a short corner and with a brilliant straight strike at the top of the circle from young Anna Crooks North Down pulled a goal back to take the teams into half time at 1-2.
With some tactical position changes at half time the home side started the second half taking the game to Annadale with consistent pressure against the away team. Finally North Down got a well deserved equaliser through Caitlin Taylor. This made the home side chase the game with even more intensity and Annadale struggled to put the ball anywhere except over the side-line giving the Comber girls plenty of possession. With numerous chances coming the way of the North Down forwards and the Annadale coach beginning to seem worried it looked to be only going in favour for the home side. However, in the last four minutes Annadale struck back with two quick breaks and put away two penalty corners in style unlike their counterparts and finished up the game with a 4-2 win.
The home-side were obviously disappointed with the result and not taking their chances when they had them but the level of play and work rate from the Comber side undoubtedly shows great promise for the rest of their season.
