North Down’s Youth Leaders
The Young Hockey Leaders Award has been launched this month in partnership with Hockey Ireland and taking part at the start of March from North Down were Tess Greer, Kirsten McBride, Georgie Greer, Rachel Bogie, Chris Drysdale, Ben Bond, Fiona Emerson, Catherine Douglas, Jonny Green, Shea Kelly, James Millar-Hogg and Rebecca Morrow – an impressive 12!! Members from Civil Service also participated in the course.
The Award is a 5-hour long course that introduces young people, aged between 15 and 18, to volunteering in their hockey club and involves modules of umpiring, coaching and team management. The aim of the programme is to enjoy all aspects of the sport of hockey rather than concentrating on playing only.
The Award helps to pass on skills, top tips and confidence so that Young Leaders can return to their clubs to put their new found knowledge to use! In order to complete the Award, each leader must attend the full course and then complete 5 hours of contact time at their club.
Well done everyone!
Thanks also to Kathy Taylor who was persuaded to give up a £50 Ulster Hockey voucher to contribute to the cost of the course!!
