Ladies seconds fall to heavy defeat
Last Friday night, the ladies 2nds played away at the Dub against Pegasus 2nds. The North Down team knew that the match ahead was going to be tough given the standard of matches already played this season. Having been promoted to Junior 1 after finishing top of the league last year, the North Down ladies knew that this year was going to be tough. Add to this the team losing at least seven of their regular members from last year’s team, the challenge of Junior 1 became even greater.
The new look seconds took to the field expecting the Pegs ladies to be an experienced, well drilled machine and that is exactly what they were. Pegasus applied lots of pressure from the outset. Their fast paced play allowed the home side to dominate the play and it wasn’t long before they scored. The North Down ladies fought hard throughout the match to win the ball but it was quickly overturned by a strong home side. The North Down side found it difficult to get the ball past a well placed Pegasus press. The pressure from Pegasus paid off as the first half ended with the home side up 6-0.
After half time, the North Down ladies came out stronger and stepped up their game, making better plays and playing more as a team. However, the goals kept coming from the well drilled home side who won the match 13-0 with their last goal coming from a short corner after the last whistle blew. Despite the score, the North Down team came off the pitch happy with a much better second half performance. Many thanks to Michael Orr for umpiring the match.
