Fifths lose in Minor Cup

Men’s 5xi suffer another defeat. – started brightly and took the lead through Chris Drysdale, who scored his first goal for the club. – The 5’s were then denied a chance to double their advantage. John Clarke broke towards the circle, beat his man who threw his stick at him nearly send the north down man to the floor, however he kept his feet got into the circle rounded the keeper only to be taken out by the Portadown shot stopper! – short corner??! Penalty Flick… Neither : HIT OUT! – this only spurred on the Ports… Who netted twice before the Interval. – North Down were soon back on level terms when John Clarke finally got his goal from a short corner. However with the game drawing on, Portadown kept the pressure up and played a patient game. This finally paid off when they capitalised on a loose ball. Advanced into the D and hammered home past Sam Brown who was deputising in nets. – the nail in the coffin came when Richard Kennedy tried to do a “Maradona” starting on his own goal line… The ball was soon lost and the ball retuned to where it had originated and beyond! Ricky’s frustration was there for all to see as he beat the ground around him. – North Down ramped up the pressure late on in the game with Bond going close with a goal mouth scramble… And Michael Mitchell unlucky to see his superb deflection saved by the keeper. 2-4 the final score…
