Ladies lose out in Dublin
The Irish Trophy final proved a step too far for the ladies 1st XI as they went down 8-1 to an experienced Cork C of I team who eventually outshone them in all departments.
The Cork team went ahead on 15 minutes but three minutes later Lauren Brown equalised following a short corner and it looked as if we were set up for a well matched final. However, by half time Cork had stretched their lead to 3-1 and when they added a fourth early in the second half it was always going to be a damage limitation exercise. As the second half progressed the Cork team grew in confidence and finished strongly adding goals at will as now happens when an astro match slips away.
The final score was 8-1 in favour of the Cork team and although the North Down girls were bitterly disappointed that they didn’t overcome the final hurdle they did reach the final and have the experience of a big occasion behind them now as they look to progress next season.
