Ladies Thirds Scoreless Against Victorians

By Kathryn Rogers

North Down ladies thirds entertained Victorians thirds at Comber Leisure Centre last Friday night. After narrowly losing 4-3 in the last meeting North Down were determined to change this. Right from the first whistle North Down gained possession and with excellent passing between Sarah Elliot and Rachel Lucas North Down readily applied pressure. Victorians were quick to fight back and were fast on the break but the North Down defence, especially sweeper Ali Millar, read the play of the ball well and cleared every ball. Throughout the rest of the first half it was much the same on both sides, each defending and attacking. With a solid performance from centre mid Jenna Hoey and Natasha Adamson lead to more attempts at scoring but a result was not achieved. Half time came and the score remained level.

North Down received a very positive team talk at half time and everyone was
determined to try and get one goal to beat their rivals. Throughout the second half left mid Sarah Elliot gave it her all fighting for every ball and achieving great one two passing with Rachel Lucas. Victorians again had many chances to beat the North Down defence but with effective teamwork from Ali Millar and Judith Orr this resulted in no goals for Victorians. North Down received the first and only penalty corner of the game and knew that if they scored they would bag the three points. However this resulted in a shot just outside the post from Ali Millar. North Down fought until the end to try and win more penalty corners but this failed and the girls ended full time with a draw. A big thank you to all the girls, everyone gave it their all and played exceptionally well. Finally, thanks to Amy Benson for umpiring.

Player of the match – Sarah Elliot
