North Down Men’s 2XI Win

North Down 2nd XI 4–3 Mossley 2nd XI

North Down 2nd XI progressed to the next round of the Irish Junior Cup with a dramatic 4–3 away victory over Mossley at The Glade.

The opening quarter finished scoreless, with Cunningham producing several fine saves to deny a bright Mossley start. After tactical adjustments, North Down struck first in the second quarter when Fynn converted a penalty stroke following a goal-line infringement. Mossley responded from a short corner, but North Down regained the lead through McLaughlin before Mossley levelled again with a penalty stroke just before half time to make it 2–2.

Mossley edged ahead in the third quarter with a back-post finish, but North Down showed great resilience. Smyth’s driving run and pressure in the circle led to Moore equalising early in the final quarter. Late drama followed when a Mossley effort was disallowed for danger, before North Down earned a final short corner. After initial efforts were saved and cleared off the line, Moore reacted quickest to score the decisive goal and secure a memorable cup win.

Motm Charlie Smyth with fellow young guns deserving a shout out for a great game, Harry McLaughlin and Rory Cunningham.
