North Down Ladies flatter League Leaders Dungannon

On Saturday, North Down Ladies’ 1st XI faced league leaders Dungannon. Despite a strong start, the team ultimately succumbed to a 3-0 defeat, marking their fourth loss in the league.

North Down began the game with determination, showcasing solid link-up play with midfielder Megan Murray effectively feeding the forward line.

The defense, led by goalkeeper Kathryn McGregor, held firm against Dungannon’s early attacks, maintaining composure throughout the first quarter with Captain Rachael Murphy delivering a solid performance, skillfully marking Dungannon’s key player, out of most of the game.

The second quarter saw Dungannon take the lead, when a penalty corner was awarded, and their clinical finishing proved decisive.

Both teams battled through the third quarter with North Down continuing to penetrate Dungannon’s defence but suffered a major setback when Sophie Leckie, who was having a super game, sustained an ankle injury and had to leave the pitch.

With time running down, North Down shifted to an attacking formation with four forwards, making a bold attempt to chase the game. Unfortunately two swift counter-attacks allowed the league leaders to extend their lead to a slightly flattering 3-0.

The coaching staff and supporters on both sides praised North Down’s efforts, highlighting their strong performance as a significant improvement from previous games. The team continue to display great spirit, giving 100% on the field.

Sophie Leckie was awarded the Burch Autos Player of the Match for her impressive contribution to the game. Despite the defeat, the girls remain united, taking the positives from their consistent performance and looking to build on it in for next weeks game against Dromore.
