North Down 2’s Rally Too Late in Defeat to Instonians
North Down 2’s travelled to Instonians on Saturday evening in the 4pm slot. Missing the experience of veteran Paul Adgey, the side struggled to find rhythm early on and were punished for a slow start.
Instonians capitalised in the first quarter, converting two clinical short corners to establish control of the game. North Down found themselves chasing from then on, and although they grew into the contest, the damage was already done.
The third quarter proved to be North Down’s best spell, as they applied sustained pressure and forced Instonians onto the back foot. However, despite creating opportunities with McGimpsey pulling the strings, they failed to convert, allowing the home side to maintain momentum and extend their lead.
Scott Moore did provide a bright moment for North Down, pulling a goal back with a well-executed short corner routine. Unfortunately, it came too late to spark a comeback, and Instonians closed out the match to secure a convincing 5–1 victory.
The lack of goals from open play leaves coaches Bailie and McBride with a tough decision to make at right back ahead of next week’s fixture, as they look to sharpen the team’s attacking edge.
Special thanks go to Keri Portinga for umpiring the match. Burch Autos Man of the Match was Scott Moore for his tireless effort and well-taken goa
