Third eleven deadlock at Mossley

North Down ladies thirds travelled to The Glade in Mossley last Friday night to play their first league fixture against the home team thirds. Having played them a few weeks earlier in the cup and winning 1-0, they were expecting another tight game.

Due to the recent inclement weather the pitch was well watered and slowed down the pace of the ball meaning the girls had to work even harder. Mossley started the game strongly with set plays down their right wing much in evidence however left back Fiona Ellis defended these well. Throughout the first half the game was very even, both sides having their chances to get into the opponents’ circles but there were no scores on the board at half time.

North Down had the better of the play as the second half progressed and throughout the third quarter the forward line put the Mossley defence under pressure.  They won a number of penalty corners but couldn’t find the back of the net with Gabbie Scates, Hannah Macrory and Flo Rebbeck working well together to make these chances happen.

During the final quarter both teams tried in vain to break the deadlock with the home team having more possession during the final minutes of the game. Goalkeeper Helena Press kept the visitors at bay and pulled off some fantastic saves to keep the score line blank and this closed out a well fought game by all involved.

Burch Autos Player of the Match was Helena Press.
