Tough return to duty for mens seconds

The men’s seconds played Cookstown 2nds at Comber on Saturday in a Junior One league fixture!

This was always going to be a tough start back for them after the Christmas break with the Cookstown team being one of the favourites for the league!

It turned out to be an entertaining game with both teams playing at a high tempo and creating goal scoring chances at both ends of the pitch. A combination of some individual errors and a more clinical Cookstown attack resulted in Cookstown winning 5-1.

In truth the match could have ended 5-5 if North Down had managed to convert their chances throughout the game. Scott Moore scored the only home goal of the game with an emphatic one yard deflection at the back post from a well worked short corner.

Some performances worth mentioning. Shea Kelly on his return to the squad was brilliant in defence with a lesson in front marking throughout the match. Daniel Griffin and Kyle Fraser both made their debuts for the seconds and produced solid performances against one of the best teams in the league. Scott Irwin and Robbie Sinclair were brilliant in midfield giving North Down a real solid base to work from in both defence and attack.

Next up for the seconds – an away trip on Saturday to South Antrim 2nds looking to reverse a 6-2 loss earlier in the season.
